Sulvam Men’s Fall 2022 – WWD

During a trip to Paris last October, Teppei Fujita took part in one of the city’s favorite pastimes – people watching. Based on the observation that runways are often different from how people dress in real life, He wanted to figure out how people dress on the streets of fall, building a wardrobe out of traditional menswear fabrics and twisting it with his distinctive hands.

Houndstooth checks and thick yarns form the backbone of his tailored slick shirts, whose lining hangs below the hem, a signature of the house or revealed in the oversized details.

The designer said through an interpreter that using such heavy fabrics to create fluid silhouettes was a particular challenge – and Fujita once again demonstrated prototyping skills. through exercise, creating structural shapes that are appealing.

Many fabrics are handcrafted by Japanese manufacturers using recycled wool yarn. “Japan is very late on sustainability topics compared to other countries,” said the designer. He explains that by hiring local weavers to create his fabrics, he sees it as his mission to demonstrate that sustainability and Japanese craftsmanship can go hand in hand.
