One The Last of Us fan created an eerie video that showcases Ellie’s mature face on her younger body through the use of deepfake technology.
Although the fan’s reaction to Our Last 2 still mixed, both it and the original Our Last One went down in game history. These titles have evoked incredible emotional responses from players around the globe through their combination of stellar cinematic storytelling and top-notch graphics. Now, one fan is mixing the two games together by taking Ellie’s face from Our Last 2 and put it on her original teenage body.
Ellie is one of the Our Last Onecentral character of, and she first appears as a cranky 14-year-old girl trying to survive a long journey across post-apocalyptic America. This young version of Ellie quickly became one of the most iconic installments of the series. However, Our Last 2 changed many things, including Ellie’s design and personality.
Redditor GdaTyler shared a short video of the cutscene from Our Last One where Ellie’s face was swapped with her old face using a deepfake. The cutscene shows Joel and Ellie looking out over an overgrown city and discussing the view. However, a thin line on Ellie’s face marks her transition to an older model, which looks a bit different from her youthful body. Apparently, this product line stems from GdaTyler’s lack of experience in blending and gradation. They expressed their desire to continue their training in both fields.
GdaTyler managed to get the new face to reflect Ellie’s expression in the scene quite accurately to the original cutscene. Still, it’s clear Ellie has the face of a grown woman on the body of a child, and her deep voice and emotional music a bit at odds with her unusual features. This is not the first time Our Last One fans played with Ellie’s design in fan creations, but it is possibly one of the most astonishing.
As of writing, it seems other fans are being cautiously intrigued by GdaTyler’s work. One user immediately asked them to place young Ellie’s face on older Ellie’s body during a cutscene are from Our Last 2, which GdaTyler claims they might do in the future. A second user said they look forward to seeing the same Joel. However, some other users noted that the video made them feel annoyed or nervous, in which one person mentioned the strange valley concept. This implies that the video’s graphics are just realistic enough to be truly creepy.
