Stephen A. Smith says COVID-19 vaccine saved his life: They told me, if I hadn’t been vaccinated, I wouldn’t be here
Stephen A. Smith almost lost the battle with COVID-19.
Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith come back First with a detailed retelling of his uphill battle with COVID-19, the virus he thought would kill him. According to the presenter, his case is so “different” that, if it weren’t for him being vaccinated and cared for by a team of doctors, he probably wouldn’t be here.
Before being infected, the 28-year former media had very low expectations for this virus. He stated:
“You’re assuming you’re going to have a fever, maybe a cough, a severe headache – but you’ll get through it. In a lot of cases that was. In my case it was completely different. “
He described the symptoms he was experiencing, which prompted him to be hospitalized during the holidays.
“I have a fever of 103 degrees every night. Waking up with chills and a puddle of sweat. Severe headache. Cough a lot. And it came to a point where, right before New Year’s Eve, I was in the hospital on New Year’s Day. That’s how I brought the new year.”
“And they told me that if I hadn’t been vaccinated, I wouldn’t be here. That’s how bad I was.”

blacksmith claimed that doctors had informed him that, if he hadn’t been vaccinated, he most likely wouldn’t have made it out of the hospital alive.
“They told me, if I hadn’t been vaccinated, I wouldn’t be here. That’s how bad that is. I had pneumonia in both lungs. My liver is bad. It devastated me to the point where I still track my mass now – going to the gym every day, walking before running. Work your way up because I’m still not 100 percent with my lungs, but I’m COVID negative. I am on my way to recovery.”
He also credits the team of doctors who helped him out of the negative, along with his sports teammates.
“But if it weren’t for a few doctors, I wouldn’t be here. Love and respect what they did. Love and respect for those in the sports community and ESPN executives who check in on me every day. Dave Roberts, Norby Williamson, Jimmy Pitaro – I can’t thank you enough”.
After working non-stop in the sports industry for over two decades, blacksmith says his COVID battle marks his longest absence. He also reiterated how grateful he was to be here and how hard it was to get to this point.
“I am very happy to be back. I missed work. In the last month, I have experienced more sick days than I have in my 28 years in this business combined. I don’t have to take many sick days, but I did this month just to stay alive. And I can’t tell you how fortunate and sincerely blessed I am to be sitting here today – because two and a half weeks, three weeks ago, I didn’t know if I would make it. ”
Stephen A. Smith announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 in December 2021.
