State Department must act on large passport backlog – CBS New York

PARAMUS, NJ (CBSNewYork) – A New Jersey congressman is calling on the State Department to take urgent action on Large backlog of passports.
It has thrown travel plans into chaos.

About two million passports are in custody, pending processing at the State Department. Currently, there is an 18-week wait.

Gottheimer said that emergency appointments in New Jersey aren’t available for the next three weeks, and some New Jersey residents are crossing state lines looking for appointments.

On Sunday, Senator Charles Schumer call Foreign Office to take action and get people out of what he calls “purgatory passports”.
