Starling Marte now likely to be traded

The Miami Marlins are looking for pieces to build around when they want to rebuild. Starling Marte, meanwhile, wants to be a part of that future, indicating his desire to sign an extension. In theory, it seems time problem before the two sides can make something work.

But that may no longer be the case. According to the report, Marte rejected Marlins’ offer, making it more likely that the midfielder will be dealt with before the transaction deadline.

Miami Marlins best offer for Starling Marte

While Marte is looking to stay with the Marlins, he is eyeing a 3-year extension worth around $50 million. Meanwhile, Miami is said to have offered a three-year, $30 million deal. Obviously, the two sides have quite a bit of distance between them.

Although Marte has been absent this season, he remains Marlins’ best player in the squad. He produced a .287/.391/.446 hit in 239 appearances on his plate on Sunday, hitting seven home players and nine doubles while stealing 18 bases. He’s the type of player the Marlins should be looking to build around, no matter the cost.

However, that does not seem to be the case with the difference in value the two parties have for Marte’s services. He would probably become the top quarterback on the trade block, a viable five-tool pick who could make a big difference in a team’s post-season hopes.

That way, Marte can become an important part of the Marlins’ future. He will bring in an impressive pool of leads, allowing Marlins to accelerate the rebuilding process. Although the two sides could find a middle ground, that no longer seems likely.

Starling Marte has turned down an offer to extend his contract with the Miami Marlins. At this point, it’s more likely that the former All Star star has been traded.
