Spear-wielding B.C. man, neighbour who encouraged him arrested after standoff, say RCMP

A B.C. man who ran at police whereas carrying a knife and a selfmade spear was arrested earlier this week, as was a neighbour who RCMP say inspired the suspect.

Based on Lillooet RCMP, the incident on the morning of Sept. 27 concerned a person apparently having a psychological well being concern, finally ending after a three-hour standoff.

Police say they have been first alerted after being advised that somebody had been chased by a yard by a person with a knife, and that home windows had additionally been damaged on a trailer close to Moha and Landfill roads.

“Police attended and positioned a male with knife and a big selfmade spear,” stated Lillooet RCMP.

“The attending member tried to arrest the male for assault with a weapon when the male started working at police with the spear pointed towards the officer.”

RCMP say the officer evaded the person and tried to de-escalate the state of affairs.

“The male seemed to be having a psychological well being concern,” stated police. “Nevertheless, he continued to be aggressive with police and refused to obey instructions to drop the knife and selfmade spear.”

The incident become a standoff, with the RCMP’s emergency response group (ERT) being referred to as in. The ERT shot the person with a less-lethal 40-millimetre spherical that knocked him to the bottom, leading to his arrest.

Police say the person was transported to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and that the incident is beneath investigation.

Whereas that was taking place, RCMP say a close-by resident started yelling on the suspect, making an attempt to encourage him whereas additionally harassing police and ERT members.

“The resident was advised to return inside his home,” stated RCMP. “Nevertheless, he refused and continued to impede police. The resident at one level requested police to help him with some firewood whereas police have been actively engaged with the male with weapons.”

Police say after the standoff suspect was arrested, the close by resident was arrested for obstructing a police officer and transported to cells.

RCMP stated the resident was subsequently launched with a future court docket date.
