‘Sopranos’ star Lorraine Bracco was ‘disappointed’ how Dr Melfi left the show

Looks like that actress Lorraine Bracco not too moved by the way her iconic character, therapist Jennifer Melfi, departs Sopranos inside HBO the show’s final season.
In a recent popular podcast episode Talking Sopranos, organized by Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa, 67, reveal her displeasure over her final scene, which happens to Tony (James Gandolfini).
In the episode titled “The Blue Comet,” Melfi’s colleagues discuss a new study at a dinner party that claims that sociopaths take advantage of talk therapy. Then she did her own research and believed that Tony was doing this. She abruptly cuts ties with Tony during their next session, without explanation, during her character’s final moment.
Bracco told Imperioli and Schirripa that she was always devastated by the sudden departure.
“I remember being so sad [with] the direction that David [Chase] brought Melfi,” she said. “I just feel like he wants me to get rid of [Tony]. I feel that he did it very suddenly. I don’t think she should do it that way. I would have liked it to be more meaningful. I think she’s interested in Tony. Even though he’s an asshole and he’ll never be really straight. But I think she really cares about him. You don’t spend seven years with someone and [then] remove them. I felt bad about that. ”

Bracco returned to being Dr. Melfi since piloting the program. The actress told the hosts that she’d rather Tony tell her to protect her in the face of the study.
“Wouldn’t that be great for him if he told her that? ‘F*ck you. I’m doing what I’m doing. I don’t care what you tell me. I don’t care morally you want to guide me. ‘ I think that’s going to be very powerful,” Bracco said.
In the podcast, the actress also talked about the personal request she made to the creator David Chase. “I begged David to play my husband,” she said. “I begged him. He said no. He was too busy writing, editing, and blah blah blah.”
What do you think of Dr. Melfi’s exit from Sopranos?
