Sony Pictures Classics introduced Thursday it has acquired rights for North America, Latin America, Jap Europe, Southeast Asia and the Center East for “Compartment No. 6,” the Finnish movie that premiered in competitors in Cannes.
Acquired from Totem Movies, it’s the second characteristic directed by Juho Kuosmanen, and relies on the novel by Rosa Liksom. Seidi Haarla and Yuriy Borisov star within the story of a Finnish lady who escapes a love affair in Moscow and connects with a Russian miner she meets in a small practice compartment on the best way to the Arctic port of Murmansk. The surprising encounter throughout the lengthy journey leads the occupants of Compartment No. 6 to face main truths about human connection.
Kuosmanen’s characteristic debut, “The Happiest Day within the Lifetime of Olli Maki,” gained the Un Sure Regard prize in 2016.
