Sony buys more studios after buying Bungie

Sony acquired Bungie for more than $3 billion and has no plans to stop as Jim Ryan confirms that more acquisitions are coming in the future.
Sony recently acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion, and it won’t stop with that consolidation as it plans to continue acquiring more studios after the purchase. Do not share any specific details, Jim Ryan confirmed that PlayStation fans can expect more big news similar to the Bungie acquisition in the future.
According to Head of Gamesindustry.biz Christopher Dring, PlayStation President and CEO has hinted that there will be more acquisitions in the near term as the deals solidify. Dring specifically said that Jim Ryan had told him “we should expect more” of acquisitions from Sony, but he didn’t give a specific timeline or what studios it might include. Sony made waves back in September 2021 with its acquisition of Bluepoint Games, and it sparked more interest in Bungie, which could suggest future Sony acquisitions will be major development studios.
Sony has confirmed that The Bungie title will remain cross-platform and it is likely that existing contracts will be honored similarly to Xbox with Activision Blizzard. Bungie titles may continue to appear on PlayStation, but some recent Xbox acquisitions should lead to exclusivity like future Bethesda games. While PlayStation fans may not see titles from Bethesda such as Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 Confirmed as an Xbox exclusive, Sony has assured that Bungie games will be available on the PlayStation platform.
Transactions like Sony Interactive Entertainment’s purchase of Bungie have been around for months, so the recent acquisition isn’t exactly Sony hitting back at Microsoft with its recent purchases. However, these purchases from Sony may be a recent Xbox response Activision Blizzard The deal made the company close to $70 billion in revenue, which stands out when compared to Bungie’s expenses. Bungie’s addition to PlayStation’s network of development studios has many fans celebrating the future possibilities when things are finalized.
Sony has made a number of other acquisitions in recent years including Firesprite, Housemarque and Nixxes, the latter of which specializes in game porting. Bluepoint Games has also worked with PlayStation to port titles like Shadow of the Statue, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and the soul of the devil. Deathloop launched as a timer console exclusive to PlayStation even though Microsoft bought Bethesda and with the sequel father Call of Duty title planned for multiple platforms, FPS fans may not be strongly affected by the massive industry change taking place.
