Sonic Frontiers Open-World: Was it inspired by the Unreal Engine demo?

SEGA is participating Sonic Frontiers open world for the next big 3D Sonic game, but it’s not quite Sonic Adventure 3 that fans may have expected. However, fans seem to believe that the new game was inspired by a Sonic Unreal Engine 4 fan demo called “Kite Demo”, which certainly has some strong similarities – but the creator creator was actually hired by SEGA to create Sonic Frontiers in their style. Demo is not real?

The new 3D Sonic game now officially called Sonic Frontiers is was correctly revealed at the Game Awards 2021 yesterday, offering a brief clip of in-game footage to show that SEGA and Sonic Team are taking the series in a more open-world direction – or as the press release mentions it, “open-Zone”, suggests that the levels will open but the whole world will not be immediately accessible.

It all looks very impressive, if still in early development as Sonic Frontiers won’t be out until Holiday 2022 at the earliest, but fans have pointed out the similarities between the two. Demo Sonic Unreal Engine 4 by the creator of CryZENx from a few years ago and the open world of Frontiers. However, despite numerous comments on that video and other suggestions on social media, CryZENx doesn’t appear to have actually been hired by SEGA to work on Sonic Frontiers to bring their vision to life. They still post regular videos on their remake of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal 4, for starters.

Regardless, there is at least one fan hired in Sonic Frontiers – IDW and comic book writer Archie Sonic Ian Flynn has been hired to write the story of the game, so it must quality setting compared to previous Sonic games. The other big trailer of the Game Awards is second Sonic the Hedgehog movie, consists of Idris Elba’s first appearance as Knuckles.
