Skin Mist Device Droplette Raises $15 Million – WWD

Skincare device business Droplette has raised $15 million.

The business, founded by Madhavi Gavini and Rathi Srinivas, has created a device that spits out tiny mists that help better penetrate the skin.

According to Gavini, the device contains an ingredient contained in the humidifier to create the mist, as well as a diaphragm pump to accelerate the droplets, which are meant to break up into smaller droplets when they touch them. skin.

The duo launched Droplette in late 2020 and this year has sold more than 1 million tablets, said Srinivas.

Droplette’s capsules are aimed at general skin concerns and contain collagen, retinol and glycolic acid. Next year, the business will expand to offer capsules that treat redness and hyperpigmentation, Srinivas said.

Gavini and Srinivas have pharmacological backgrounds, and are aiming to bring some of those specific traits into the skin care arena.

“One thing that we’ve realized when we get into the consumer skincare side of the game is that it’s really not quite the same thing – if you think about a pump bottle or eyedropper, they’ll ask you to use one or two pumps or several said Srinivas. Droplette’s devices allow a specific amount of product to pass through, and there are patents for the core delivery technology and how the product capsule fits into the device, she noted. “It’s not degraded by light or air,” says Srinivas.

With the funds raised, Droplette’s team plans to automate the manufacturing process, using robots to build and seal the capsules. The team is “trying to put some of that pharmaceutical rigor into skin care,” adds Srinivas.
