Sha’Carri Richardson to compete in double standards after Kamila Valieva was allowed to compete: ‘Only difference I see is that I’m a young black girl’

Sha’Carri Richardson is questioning the Olympics about what appears to be a double standard!

American track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson is causing a stir after she publicly questioned the Olympics about their decision to allow Russian figure skaters Kamila Valieva, 15, the chance to stay and compete after testing positive for the heart-blocking drug, Trimetazidine. The 21-year-old athlete is questioning the decision because she cannot compete at Summer Olympics 2021 after testing positive for marijuana.

Richardson retweeted and responded to a USA TODAY video clip revealing the Court of Arbitration’s decision to allow Valieva to compete at this year’s Winter Olympics. Richardson wrote,

“Can we have a definite answer as to the difference between her situation and the mine? My mother passed away and I couldn’t run and was also favored in the top 3. The only difference I see is that I am a young black girl.”

It is known that the Court of Arbitration for Sport said that because Kamila Valieva 15 years old, she is considered a “The Protected One” and therefore have different rules for adult athletes.

As previously reported, Sha’Carri Richardson was scheduled to run the 100-meter Olympic race last summer but was suspended for 30 days after testing positive for marijuana. She said she used marijuana to deal with the death of her mother, which Sha’Carri discovered while taking part in the Olympic trials. The heartbreaking news and traumatic birth, as well as the general pressure she was under at the time, influenced her decision to smoke weed.

Understandably, this recent decision has Richardson some concerns. In a string of tweets, she called out the Olympics and expressed her displeasure at what appeared to be a double standard. She writes,

“It’s all in the skin… Btw THC is definitely not a performance enhancer!!!!”

She continued by comparing her situation to that of Valieva,

“Failure [drug test] in December and the whole world knows now but my results were posted within a week and my name and talent was slaughtered for everyone…. To speak!!!”
