Seth Meyers is suing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for swearing at masked children

On Thursday night, a day after the other late night host Jimmy Kimmel dragged Republican troll reps Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene with him Seth Meyers turned his ire on another shameless, Trump-appeasing politician: Ron DeSantis.

“[Trump] He just goes from town to town holding his one-man WrestleManias where all he does is whine and rant and his crowd yells, ‘Lock them up!’ even if it doesn’t make sense,” Meyers said, adding, “This is the heart of modern Republican politics. And that’s exactly what happened yesterday when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appeared at a press conference at the University of South Florida and berated a group of high school students for wearing masks.”

Yes, video of the event shows DeSantis — whose state of Florida currently has the second-highest average COVID death toll of any state, just behind far larger California — berating a group of high school teens for wearing masks at his indoor event have worn.

“You don’t have to wear those masks,” an angry DeSantis snapped at the kids, wagging his finger. “I mean, please take them off. Honestly it doesn’t do anything and we need to stop this COVID theatre. So if you want to wear it, fine. But this is – this is ridiculous.”

Most of the children followed his terrible, anti-scientific advice and took off their masks after the public allegations.

“How stupid do you have to be to yell at a bunch of high school kids just trying to be safe?” Meyers asked. “They’re actually doing the right thing, and you scold them for it. You’re like an old man who sees a bunch of innocent teenagers walking by and says, “Hey, kids! Receive at my lawn! And while you’re at it, throw a frisbee through my window! It’s not a trap!’”

“Also, let’s just get the facts straight here: DeSantis is obviously wrong, and masks absolutely help control the spread of COVID – studies have proven that time and time again,” he continued. “And the better the mask, the better the protection. Ideally, everyone should have access to high-quality, high-filtration medical masks like the N95, KN95, and KF94.”

Meyers is right. A comprehensive CDC study on Masking comments: “Experimental and epidemiological data support community masking to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2, including alpha and delta variants, among adults and children. The prevention benefit of masking comes from the combination of source tagging and carrier protection. The relationship between source control and carrier protection is likely to be complementary and possibly synergistic, such that individual utility increases as community mask usage increases. Mask use has been shown to be safe and is not associated with clinically significant effects on respiration or gas exchange under most circumstances, except during vigorous exercise.”

I personally recommend Air Queen masks. They’re far more comfortable than the N95 and KN95 and say they offer about the same level of protection a CDC study of them.
