Sentinels hold back another OpTic sweep for revenge and knock OpTic out of the HCS Kickoff Major in Raleigh

Sentinels avenge them lose the upper bracket compared to OpTic in the quarterfinals of the lower bracket of Halo Kickoff Major Series (HCS) Championship in Raleigh today, holding off their rivals’ second consecutive angry comeback attempt to make the series in five games.

The rematch starts with Strongholds on Streets, and it looks like OpTic will run away with that after some early triples and wipe out the entire team. But the Sentinels woke up when they needed to, with a +100 hit and a few triples of their own to take the lead. The Sentinels led 1-0 in the series with a score of 250-139.

The Sentinels built on that comeback with a stellar Slayer performance on Recharge, with the broadcast highlighting the squad’s excellent communication during their 50-43 victory on map two. Frosty is completely lethal with 24 kills, just 12 kills, and a handful of shards with an energy sword.

OpTic fell 0-2 for the second straight series before moving to CTF on Bazaar, which turned into a defensively oriented game between the two teams. The stalemate was broken with an aPG-led position, with Lucid providing a lot of frag support. OpTic established control of the map and dug into the rest of the Bazaar, punishing the Sentinels’ desperate rampage and bringing the CTF to 2-0 to keep the streak alive.

The series switches to an OpTic favorite: Oddball on Live Fire. They showed why in the first half dominated, establishing solid map control to create long scoring runs aided by the deadly Sniper work from Lucid. The Sentinels started the second half strong, but they fell victim to a massive rally from OpTic that ended with another busy clutch, taking the series to the fifth map.

On the brink of what would be a historic downfall, the Sentinels finally cowered in Slayer on Streets, with FormaL sporting its own championship pedigree with a stellar performance. They took a double-digit lead early on and never gave up, winning 50-39 to avoid being swept back with a staggering 21 kills while only 9 deaths came from FormaL.

With the loss, OpTic will miss the grand final of a major tournament Halo event for the first time since the North American qualifiers for the 2016 World Championship. Sentinels progressed to the bottom bracket semi-finals against FaZe for the Pioneer Team. For the Sentinels core, Halo A career playing under CLG, OpTic and TOX shows that anything other than appearing in the grand final against Raleigh can be seen as a disappointment.
