Sega is confident that Sonic Frontiers will not be delayed

Sonic Frontiers took longer than usual sound Game. While it used to be normal for new mainline titles to come out with the bruise almost every year, it’s been almost five years since the last one. sound forces, did. Luckily for impatient fans, the first is open-world (or “open-zone” as Sega calls it) sound The game appears to be on track to arrive on schedule this holiday season, despite concerns many fans have had recently.

The preparations for the publication of Sonic Frontiers was interesting to say the least. To say more than a few fans were confused Sonic Frontiers“ Marketing would also be correct. The first gameplay footage Sega released received a mixed reception, and many fans found it a bit unpolished, even unfinished in some ways. This has led to debates about whether it would be better to push the game to 2023, like a growing number of big open-world games that have already been pushed back.

Sega clearly doesn’t think so, however, as in a recent financial meeting, Sega Sammy executives Koichi Fukazawa and Makoto Takahashi raised the issue of the delay Sonic Frontiers and candidly stated, “We’re not currently considering postponing the launch.” However, they do emphasize that Sega intends to incorporate as much fan feedback as possible “within the development timeline.”

This latest statement echoes Sonic Team Principal Takashi Iizuka, who in June addressed concerns about the game’s apparent lack of polish, stressing that those who are concerned simply don’t understand Sonic Frontiers‘ Gameplay yet. With that in mind, Sega seems confident enough about the game’s status to commit to launching it before the end of the year.

Of course, it’s understandable that the fans are still concerned. The disastrous starts for high profile games like Cyberpunk 2077 have left many players once bitten twice shy of any game that looks like it might spawn another unfinished mess, and at this point mentioning Sonic’s own history of underperforming game starts has become something of a cliché. But then again, Sega hopes Sonic Frontiers will get high ratings from critics, and that probably won’t happen if the company forces the game out before it’s done.

Featuring a brand new open world to explore, improved combat mechanics and the inclusion of the fan favorite sound comics writer Ian Flynn, Sonic Frontiers has the ingredients for a big hit for the franchise. Sega certainly believes it has a winner in the making, and hopefully it will turn out to be right. In any case, fans will get their next look at how the game is progressing and when Sonic Frontiers will be shown at Gamescom later this month.

Sonic Frontiers will launch this holiday season for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
