Sega delisting classic Sonic games in May ahead of Sonic Origins release

It’s that translucent blue you see? That’s Sega, removing some of its classic Sonic the Hedgehog titles from its digital storefront.

The publisher announced Tuesday that the four games included in the Sonic Origin Collection will be canceled on May 20th: Sonic the HedgehogSonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knucklesand CD Sonic. People who want to buy those games legally after that date will most likely have to get them over Sonic Origin – and we say mainly because, as the publisher notes, there are a few exceptions regarding the Nintendo Switch.

Sega Ages’ Advanced Portals Sonic and Sonic 2 available on the Nintendo Switch eShop will still be on sale, as will the version of Sonic 2 playable with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass. Unfortunately, all the other (very good) ports are gone, much like Sonic fans’ hopes of a good game whenever a new title is released.

Sonic Origin coming to consoles and PC on June 23 – a month after the standalone version of its compositing games will be delisted.
