Second season anime fans desperately want (but probably never will)
The genre Isekai has popularity boom over the years, with some of the most successful titles in recent memory incorporating various Isekai elements into their narrative and premise. As with most popular genres, there are many bland Isekai titles that simply reuse many of its images and character archetypes to cash in on the genre’s popularity.
However, the oldest and most impactful Isekai titles have all managed to take the basic elements of the genre and do something unique with them. The series follows siblings Sora and Shiro, who, after being transported to another world, use their different skills to participate and succeed in various high-stakes games. The light novel series, published in Media Factory’s MF Bunko J magazine, began serialization in 2012 with the 11th volume released in November after a three-year hiatus.
The novel’s success has inspired a manga adaptation and spin-off, though neither of them stand out as the original material.
