Savannah College of Art and Design Pays Tribute to Pierre Cardin – WWD

BUT FRIENDS: After a 14-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, Savannah College of Art and Design has reopened its location in the village of Lacoste in the French region of Provence, along with an exhibition about Pierre Cardin, who put the picturesque village on the map with its annual arts festival.
“Notre Ami, Pierre Cardin” (“Our friend Pierre Cardin”) showcases some of the Space Age designer’s most outstanding creations, along with two films by POINT celebrates his life and legacy. It is set to run until September 3.
Cardin’s relationship with POINT began in 2002, when the university acquired a site in the village and renovated a series of historic structures to transform them into centers of art and design research. Cardin, who owned properties in Lacoste, including a castle formerly belonging to the Marquis de Sade, became a mentor to the students.
The designer has a close relationship with SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace and the university. The SCAD FASH Film + Fashion Museum at the Atlanta outpost hosted a “Pierre Cardin: Pursuit of the Future” retrospective in 2018.
“Cardin absolutely admires the work of SCAD students. He often comments on the joy and special they have brought to Lacoste – and to him, emotionally and artistically. He connects with students in every subject we teach at SCAD, from architecture, furniture design and painting to yarn, sequential art, illustration and more, ‘ Wallace recalled in a tribute.

Visitors can also visit the ShopSCAD Lacoste concept store, which carries accessories, clothing, stationery, home decor and gifts from SCAD students, faculty, and alumni. Additionally, five SCAD artists are performing their work in the university’s medieval caves as part of a residency program.
The Festival de Lacoste is scheduled to run from August 1 to 17. Cardin, who died in December at the age of 98, was determined to keep the festival going last year, despite COVID-19 restrictions. , with appearances by French actor Gérard Depardieu and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.
