Samson discusses why big signings are happening in MLB before a potential lockdown

The Baseball League’s current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) expires on Wednesday. With that date fast approaching, owners are expected to lock players out until a new CBA deal. Despite the deadline, the big deals keep coming and it seems like every few minutes a breaking news is announced.
David Samson discussed it all in the latest episode of his podcast “Nothing Personal with David Samson”.
Samson started by saying that the players thought this was the perfect time to get the most money from the owners. Owners have said everything is working as normal, but Samson noted how unusual the signings, and major signings at the time, came the weekend after Thanksgiving. , a generally quieter time for baseball.
If players want to sign before that December 1st, they must sign with enough time to fly out to the city and complete fitness, which means Monday is the real deadline.
Players can wait until after potentially locked, and Samson asks, “What’s the rush?”
Samson explained, “Words to the wise, when Scott Boris wants to sign his players as soon as this means the players will get more years and more money.”
The podcast host then explains that scary money doesn’t make money, so you have to spend it, but “if you’re spending money, don’t spend it stupidly.”
As a fan, you measure contracts right now and you feel excited that your team has added big-name players and is willing to spend a lot.
“The irony is what has happened in the past few days, is it… MLBdream prospect. The owner’s dream scenario. Because they’re forgetting the fact that they’re overpaying for years and possibly the annual average,” Samson said.
MLB was able to make news during free agency time in a frenzy like NBA do it during free agency time and maybe even do it on Sunday when NFL playing.
December 1 is not a trading deadline, but “it is a deadline, because they can sign players under the old collective bargaining rules.”
It’s also something that gets a boost from dealers.
“Dealers produce deadlines for the sole purpose of making owners nervous, and we’ve seen owners like we’ve never seen before,” Samson concludes.
