Sailor Moon vs. Marvel’s Avengers: Who’s Strong Enough To Win?

March 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the original broadcast of Sailor Moon in Japan. And over those three decades, Toei Animation’s manga adaptation has grown into one of the most popular and influential series of all time, appearing in everything from Pixar To redden to HBO’s euphoria.

as Sailor Moon‘s legacy cementing itself, it’s hard to imagine another group that has become so influential for a new generation of nerds: the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of the Avengers. While the two groups appear very different, one being a Japanese animated series with mostly female heroes and the other being an American film franchise with a team of heroes focused mostly on super-powered men, the Sailor Senshi and the original six MCU Avengers also a lot more in common than most realize – and imagining the two crossing each other only makes the connections clearer. During the ’90s, Sailor Moon introduced many fans to Japanese anime, while the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought new fans to Marvel’s comic book characters (other than the X-Men). Both vigilantes also fight for love and justice, have unlikely and reluctant heroes, and even survived an internal power struggle.

But what does it really mean to pit the Sailor Senshi against the Avengers? Who would win if the teams ever crossed paths? let’s find out

We assume that all our competitors are fully switched on. That means there’s no time to attack during the famously long transformation sequences – and that goes for Sailor Moon and iron man All fighters are also in their strongest forms for the most part. For continuity, the Sailor Senshi are transformed into their forms Sailor Moon Starsthe last season of Sailor Moonand the MCU Avengers are like in the beginning Avengers: Endgame. Hence, Captain America has his shield made out of Vibranium, but Iron Man doesn’t have an Infinity Gauntlet.

When that’s settled, we ask ourselves aloud: Who want Victory?

Sailor Moon vs Iron Man

Sailor Moon and Iron Man are reluctant leaders in their respective groups who end up making some of the greatest sacrifices. While Iron Man tends to have the advantage with his intelligence and technology, Sailor Moon wields magical powers with a seemingly limitless source of moon-powered energy fueled by her belief in love and justice. There’s also her Silver Crystal, which gives Sailor Senshi the ability to time-jump, revive an entire population, and significantly increase lifespan – Sailor Moon’s daughter turns 900! – and of course defeat every opponent.

Unfortunately, a mere mortal in a high-tech suit, Iron Man is often weak to magic; He was no match for Scarlet Witch’s mind-altering magic Avengers: Age of Ultronand swing the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame brought about his early death. With Sailor Moon’s goddess-like powers passed down through generations from the kings of the Moon Kingdom, and weapons like the Holy Grail in her arsenal, she’ll have a distinct advantage over just about any Avenger, including Tony Stark.

Winner: Sailor Moon

Sailor Mercury vs Black Widow

Both Sailor Mercury and Black Widow rely on tactical skills to defeat their enemies. Sailor Mercury uses technologies such as the “Mercury Goggle” which allows her to scan her enemies for weaknesses, but her true weapon is intellect; canonically, she has an IQ score of 300, while real American magazine columnist Marilyn vos Savant, who has the highest IQ in the real worldhas a score of 228.

Of course, when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, Black Widow rules. Black Widow’s training from The Red Room also gives her the experience to withstand almost any attack. Luckily, Sailor Mercury has a few powerful attacks in her arsenal, including Mercury Bubble Blast, which creates a dense fog to hide her position, and Shine Aqua Illusion, which has the power to freeze her enemies into a block of ice. If Sailor Mercury can physically keep Black Widow away long enough, she has a chance of winning with wits (and a combo attack) by beating brawn.

Winner: Sailor Mercury

Sailor Mars vs. Hawkeye

Both Sailor Mars and Hawkeye specialize in long-range attacks, with the Senshi relying on fire to engage her enemies and the Avenger using a variety of specialty arrows. However, while Sailor Mars has an unlimited amount of ofuda To exorcise demons, Hawkeye can pull out multiple trick arrows in a matter of seconds, which could likely fight the fire of Mars. So what does it matter?

Iron Will should work to Sailor Mars’ advantage; in the final of the 1 Sailor Moon, Mars is smashed by rocks and attacked by multiple enemies, but still finds the willpower to fight multiple villains after being badly injured. Then, seconds before her last breath, she takes out another villain with her Fire Soul! attack. causing a huge fire explosion.

However, with Hawkeye’s impeccable aim, it’s only a matter of time before Sailor Mars is hit with an acid, sonic, frost, or heck, fire extinguisher arrow. As much as I don’t want to admit it (because Ronin deserves to be exorcised with Sailor Mars’ Ofuda), Hawkeye and his deep tremors will likely claim victory here.

Sailor Jupiter vs Thor

Thor is the “God of Thunder” and Sailor Jupiter is the “Goddess of Lightning,” so it’s only natural that these two would go head-to-head. But for all of their quests, I’d say the two are evenly matched in their magical thunder and lightning powers, meaning any encounter would amount to melee combat. Sailor Jupiter is very skilled at fighting and has defeated enemies without having to transform into her Sailor Senshi form, but admittedly doesn’t get as much combat practice as she has to balance school work and her hobbies.

Meanwhile, Thor goes to Jotunheim to regularly hunt giants. If Jupiter can’t use Thor’s vertigo to their advantage, Thor has a chance to win this fight. We may actually see a version of this fight in the near future: Zeus, whose Roman counterpart gives Sailor Jupiter his name, will supposedly compete against Thor Thor: Love and Thunder.

Winner: Thor

Sailor Venus vs. Captain America

While Captain America leads the Avengers into battle, Sailor Venus is tasked with guiding the Inner Senshi (Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, and Sailor Jupiter). In addition to their heroic roles, both have also served as mascots, with Cap (reluctantly) rising for the US military and Sailor V in her own series of video games and comics set in the world of Sailor Moon anime

As for skills, Sailor Venus has strong attacks like Crescent Beam, which shoots a beam of energy at her enemies and can split in different directions, and Love Me Chain, which spins a chain around. Captain America may be able to repel these attacks with his famous shield, Sailor V’s attacks can split in different directions, which could prove difficult for a Super Soldier even when supported by his Avengers. To win, he would have to get in close and engage Sailor Venus in melee combat to offset her ranged attacks. The real deciding factor? Cap’s “I can do this all day” mentality. It’s the stamina needed to win against the Sailor Senshi.

Winner: Captain America

Tuxedo Mask vs Hulk

While there are five Inner Senshi, there are six original MCU Avengers. So the final Avenger, Hulk, has to face Tuxedo Mask by default. Contrary to popular belief, Tuxedo Mask (in the anime) has quite a few attacks in his arsenal, including the ability to throw razor-sharp roses and use his stick like a sword.

Neither of these attacks could win against the Hulk. Come on. Hulk Tuxedo Mask would probably end up swinging like a rag doll (much like he did Loki The Avengers). The good news is that Tuxedo Mask, with his self-sacrificing spirit, will happily take one for the team. In the end, this matchup only needs two words: “Hulk Smash”.

Winner: hulk
