Russian Troops Plan Ways Out of Putin’s War Including ‘Into Psychiatry’

Russian troops appear to be resorting to increasingly drastic methods to extricate themselves from Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine, in one case even in a psychiatric hospital, according to Ukrainian intelligence.

The newly released audio by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry’s main intelligence service is said to be an intercepted phone conversation between a Russian soldier stationed in Ukraine’s Kherson region and his parents.

After telling his father that “we’re all on strike here,” the soldier, whose name is Andrei, says that everyone is “already fed up with everything” and refuses to follow orders.

“They’re all rebelling,” he says. “Tell mom to get me a doctor’s note saying I have high blood pressure. Maybe then I can go home. Others have already sent them back.”

His mother then picks up the phone and drops a bombshell about a family friend who also appeared to be serving.

“Basically he came, or he was taken out of there, and he said, ‘I’m not going any further in the army,’ and he would go into hiding,” she said.

His mother decided to commit him to a psychiatric hospital, she said. His mother, she said, “pulled strings so that when he gets out he can still drive and work.”

The soldier seems more interested in how the family friend managed to get out of Ukraine in the first place and asks: “Who did they get out? How did you get them out? You know?”

She replies by telling him she heard some troops refused to continue participating in the war and were turned back as a result.

“They say that in Donetsk – find out if you can – they bring people like us to Donetsk. They force them to sign contracts and even torture them [to do so].. They threaten them with some kind of law and force them to take an oath and sign a contract,” the soldier replies, adding that an acquaintance is in contact with a lawyer, “because they illegally arrested all of us.”

According to the main intelligence service of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, the number of Russian soldiers rebelling against the war has grown to such a level that the Russian Federal Security Service has planted agents in the ranks to act as informants. Those who are most vocal in expressing their desire to give up the fight will be relocated to the most dangerous areas instead, the agency said on Wednesday.

Some Russian troops appear to have given up all hope of achieving the twisted “victory” in Ukraine that the Kremlin has in mind.

Two soldiers were even caught switching to Ukrainian after complaining about the war in an audio clip of an allegedly bugged call shared by Ukraine’s security service on Wednesday.

“We fight this every damn night [sabotage and reconnaissance groups].… Well, shit, I’ve had enough of everything. I want to go home,” says a man identified as a Russian soldier.

After unleashing a torrent of profanities, both soldiers suddenly appear to have finished their venting session, before inexplicably ending their conversation not with the typically Russian “Goodbye,” but with the Ukrainian: “Do pobachenn’a!” Russian Troops Plan Ways Out of Putin’s War Including ‘Into Psychiatry’
