Russia adds Freeland and Joly employees, LGBTQ activists, singers to sanctions list – Montreal

Russia on Friday sanctioned a number of Canadian public figures, including Major General. Michael Wright, Chief of Intelligence Command for the Canadian Armed Forces, and the pastor who officiated the first gay marriages in Canada.

Moscow’s latest round of sanctions targets several associates of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who was an outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and is of Ukrainian descent.

Foreign Secretary Melanie Joly’s media team, Maeva Proteau and Adrien Blanchard, will also be banned from entering Russia.

Also on the Kremlin list are Ian Scott, head of the broadcast regulator at the Canadian Radio, Television and Telecommunications Commission, which banned Russian state broadcaster RT from the Canadian airwaves earlier this year, and retired Gen. Rick Hillier, former chief of defense staff.
