Any actual playoffs to hope for Seattle Seahawks Football Team appeared to be out the window on Monday night after falling 3-8 into the season following a 17-15 loss to the Washington Soccer Team.
It was another nasty night for offense, even though Seattle scored the first goal of the game as Russell Wilson connect with Gerald Everett after a deep shot to Tyler Lockett. The team then beat twice and fumbled into the break and then started the second half with five straight throws and four consecutive trebles.
It was a particularly quiet night for star receiver DK Metcalf, who caught only four targets in 13 yards. Metcalf made the only match with just over a minute left and the contest had over a minute left, so he wasn’t a major factor throughout the night. Not having a player of the caliber of Metcalf rolling around could be one of the main reasons why Seattle hasn’t been able to make a splash in attacking play, which Wilson admitted after the game.
“Yes, I think it’s clear that we need to get DK into football,” Wilson said, via NFL.com.
“He’s one of the best footballers in the world. You have to get him into football, you have to find a way to do it, maybe you have to take him around a lot more. We going to study it and see what we can do he did hit down second or third I forgot what it was on the left side Play big because it gave us a chance to continued. If someone loves him, I love him. We know that he is an important factor for us and we need to get the most out of him.”
Wilson admitted that Seattle called up several plays for Metcalf in Monday’s loss, but Washington gave him doubles for most of the game. Pete Carroll also praised Washington’s Monday for how well they played against Metcalf and took him away from what Seattle wanted to do offensively.
“It’s not because we didn’t try to find him and try to get that ball to him,” Carroll said. “He’s in on all the calls, but sometimes the coverage gets in the way of it, and you have to go to other places and make the right decisions there. At this point, I can’t say. tell you that we overlooked him in this situation. They did a good job at times, but he’s definitely part of everything we’re calling for.”
In the last four games, Metcalf has faltered statistically, catching just 14 of his 26 goals for 113 yards and two touchdowns. That will need to change if Seattle wants a more consistent attack on offense.
