Rumor: Switch Star Fox or Kid Icarus HD Remaster in Development at Bandai Namco

Bandai Namco is recruiting for several positions in the company. Normally this wouldn’t be that amazing if it weren’t for the fact that they are working on an HD reaster of a 3D action game on behalf of Nintendo. This news has sparked rumors of a Star fox, fox or Kid Icarus: Uprising HD remaster for Nintendo Switch.

What do we know about Bandai Namco’s HD remaster?

The upcoming game will be a 3D action game project from Nintendo. According to the job listing for a visual artist, as spotted by ResetEra, part of the development process will include creating HD reconstructions of 3D backgrounds. This means importing existing 3D backgrounds into a new tool. This leaves players guessing which Nintendo game could become a remake for the Switch with the most popular theories being Kid Icarus: Uprising or one of the Star Fox titles.

If the game is indeed a remake of Star Fox, there are plenty of titles to choose from. While it may not be the first game that comes to mind, Star Fox: Assault was actually developed by Namco for the Gamecube. Its gameplay includes aerial combat, ground vehicle combat, and third-person shooters. Other possibilities include its predecessor Star Fox Adventures, as well as Star Fox Command or even Star Fox Zero.

Kid Icarus: Uprising was originally created by the now defunct Project Sora studio. The 3DS game combines third-person shooter gameplay with rails shooter segments and would certainly fit the looser definition of an “action” game the industry uses. However, creator Masahiro Sakurai has previously stated that adapting the game on Nintendo Switch would be impossible as they no longer have the manpower to do so. It doesn’t sound likely that development will be transferred to another studio, but strange things have happened. Either way, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we have more information.

In other news, there are rumors that Dead Island 2 could be remade this summer with a release date as early as the end of the year. Elsewhere, the latest Halo: The Master Chief Collection update added Floodfight, cross-platform campaign co-op, and campaign customization for some of its titles.
