Rocky River police ask residents to lock cars, avoid becoming victims of theft

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WJW) – As car thefts and car thefts continue to increase, police are reminding people to lock their cars and homes.

Rocky River Over the past few months, officers have responded to half a dozen reports of stolen cars, said Sheriff George Lichman.

Lichman told Fox 8: “It happens so often that it’s on our radar. I-Team. “We have increased residential patrols in the surrounding areas.”

Lichman added that the vehicle stolen Wednesday in Rocky River was found a short time later in Cleveland. He said detectives also located three other cars that had been stolen from other communities.

“The car that was stolen in the Rocky River is being handled by detectives and we believe there will be arrests,” Lichman said.

The chief said it appeared the recent car thefts were crimes of opportunity.

“The cars were unlocked,” the sheriff said. “We politely ask residents to do us two favors; lock your house and vehicles, and if you see something, say something. You know the neighborhood you live in, you know the ordinary people and vehicles.
