Roberts’ week-long guest show time follows the time of her “GMA” colleague George Stephanopoulos on the podium. The show contributed $147,396 to No Kid Hungry in honor of Stephanopoulos, an amount equal to the total winnings of the contestant on his guest show.
Roberts has chosen Be The Match, the National Marrow Donor Program, as her charity to receive a donation from the program upon the end of her activities as a guest host.
While hosting the guest show, Roberts said she just “wanted to bring back a little bit of Alex [Trebek], just a little bit.”
“No one can be him, but I just wanted to bring back a little bit of the spirit that he brought every time here on set,” she explained.
“What really touched me was that one of the last times I spoke to him in the studio at ‘Good Morning America,'” she added. “He came in and he was joking. He made all of us feel comfortable, and I will never forget that because everyone was pinning and needle and it was Alex Trebek who made it. We feel very comfortable.”
