Road closures this weekend for longboarding event in Kelowna, BC – Okanagan

Need to see some live speed? A longboarding event in Kelowna, BC this weekend could take that itch away.

Knox Mountain Downhill takes place August 20-21 and will feature longboarders hurtling down the steep and winding Knox Mountain Drive.

Longboarding is similar to skateboarding, but as the name suggests, the boards are much longer. Racers will be outfitted with protective gear, including full-face helmets and gloves, as well as leather suits or knee pads.

“Straw bales are strategically placed to minimize injury,” according to the downhill racer safety website.

“Bales are often set up to allow them to move on impact, resulting in controlled deceleration. Great care is taken in the placement of each section of straw bale. Ensure areas with the highest likelihood of slips are best covered.”
