Riot apologizes for calling Worlds 2021 play-in stage a ‘fiesta,’ says it was meant as an ‘ironic joke’

Riot Video games issued an apology after inadvertently referring to the 2021 League of Legends World Championship play-in stage as a “fiesta.”

The builders described the unlucky wording as “placeholder copy” that was meant as an “ironic joke” on account of their “frustration in not with the ability to assist play-ins” with Worlds 2021 Choose’ems.

In a post on Sept. 26, Riot had written: “Play-ins are occurring and we don’t assist that fiesta. Sit again, loosen up, and collect up your posse in preparation for the present.” It was later deleted.

A number of notable figures from the group, together with esports host Sjokz and commentator Captainflowers, spoke out concerning the wording, describing it as “disrespectful” and “actually odd.”

In a statement on Sept 27, Riot’s director of esports product administration Luke Cudney defined: “All of us love play-ins right here. This yr, we overhauled Choose’ems from the bottom up. The pivot to Iceland, late adjustments to the schedule, uncertainty about which groups would qualify plus technical complexity all resulted in our must take away play-ins from our Choose’ems plans.”

“Evidently, the sentiment mirrored within the copy doesn’t mirror our perspective and actually is simply the alternative. We apologize for the error,” Cudney added.

The Worlds 2021 play-in stage options 10 groups from a mixture of main and minor areas. It kicks off with a best-of-one match between Hanwha Life and LNG on Oct. 5 at 6am CT.
