Rides, Food and Entertainment: Queen City Ex 2022 officially underway – Regina

Wednesday is the first day of the Queen City Ex 2022 in Regina, which will offer a variety of fun and entertainment to the fair visitors over the next few days.

In 2021, despite the COVID-19 protocols, the fair was very successful, breaking the attendance record as an eight-day fair.

This year’s Queen City Ex lasts just five days, like previous years, from Wednesday to Sunday.

Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) President and CEO Tim Reid believes they will have a great show financially and that attendance will be comparable to what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Measuring against the still very good year 2019 is probably what we are trying to do. But we think trade shows across the country are returning to 2019 levels, but spending has increased significantly,” says Reid.

“The number of visitors may be the same at the trade fairs that have passed in the first half of the summer, the expenditure has increased between 20 and 30 percent.”

Reid says the program offered at this year’s show will make it an unforgettable experience for people planning to walk through the middle.

Some of the highlights he recommends for people to include are the unique and delicious foods throughout the fair, the thrilling rides, and the live entertainment, which features a Thursday night show by recording artist Jason Derulo.

“I think Jason Derulo is going to be the greatest artist we’ve probably ever brought to the Queen City Ex stage,” suggests Reid. “Honestly, the $18 value for money to get through the gates to see Jason Derulo is probably the best value for an entertainment experience this summer.”

This summer’s fair will feature approximately 55 different rides, 60 food vendors and more than 30 new menu items.

While many of the classics like the Zipper or the Crazy Mouse are back for another round, people can also experience a new ride in the Raptor Run.

Scooter Korek, vice president of customer care at North American Midway Entertainment, says it’s great to see big turnout at each of their shows in Canada this summer.

“We’ve done five (exhibitions) in Canada so far and they’ve been nothing short of spectacular,” says Korek. “I think the community wants to get out there and get back into it, put this pandemic behind us and have fun.”

Those willing to try some interesting food combinations while at the Queen City Ex should look no further than new foods available for purchase, including Korean corn dog with squid ink, mac and cheese soft serve, and Oreo rice.

The gates are open daily from 12pm to 11pm, entry and passes are available at the gate.

The schedule and more information about this year’s Queen City Ex is available on the event website.
