Resident Evil Village Fans Recreate Lady Dimitrescu in Classic Animation 2.5D

Capcom’s Resident Evil Village could launch in 2021, but its iconic characters keep players coming back time and time again. Of course, there was one figure in particular that took the internet by storm: Countess Alcina Dimitrescu, more widely known as Lady Dimitrescu.

Incredibly creepy, Lady Dimitrescu’s introduction scene marks one of the most memorable moments from Resident Evil Village. Of course, with a fearsome stature and a voice filled with malice, who could forget the king of Castle Dimitrescu?

After a moment of inspiration, a Resident Evil Village fans recreated the 2.5D animated Lady Dimitrescu’s trailer, adding a classic flair to the modern horror game.

ROBIN’S NEST’S WILL RESIDENT EVIL VILLAGE LADY DIMITRESCU ANIMATION

Robin’s Nest creators (u/the-robins-nest on Reddit) first shared their 2.5D animation on r / ResidentEvil subreddit. 2.5D animation is a particularly interesting style that combines 3D with 2D. Usually this involves placing 2D characters in a 3D world or vice versa. It creates a special effect that adds depth to other 2D objects, removing contrast between different dimensions.

In Robin’s Nest Resident Evil animated, they recreated each character in 2D pixel art style. The animation shows the game’s protagonist, Ethan Winters, being Lady Dimitrescu’s three daughters – Bela, Daniela and Cassandra. The insect then dims the screen as Ethan is hooked and dragged through Dimitrescu Castle. After a burst of giggles from the sisters, the animation continued to play through Lady Dimitrescu’s grand entrance.

While the pixel art style of this animation doesn’t give it the same taste of horror, it adds a wicked sense of nostalgia. You still feel how vast Dimitrescu Castle is, as well as how terrifying Lady D herself really is. The artist’s ability to adapt the first-person horror game to the third-person in a nostalgic style is a testament to their artistic abilities.
