Removed Take-Two issue for GTA, Red Dead VR Mods

A prominent modder for GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mafia Definitive Edition received a notification from Take-Two asking to take down his mod.

Usually, when players want to add a feature to a game or completely overhaul a certain title, they look to mods to make it happen. Modifications for PC games have been around for decades, and revisions for games like Skyrim helped keep the game alive and provided it with plenty of new content for players to enjoy. A modder known as LukeRoss recently posted a lengthy message to his fans on Patreon stating that he received a request from Take-Two to remove his VR mods for car theft 5, Red Dead Redemption 2and Mafia Definitive Edition. Reportedly, Take-Two is asking Ross to remove all of the work from his Patreon site, due to the company’s use of copyrighted material. Ross is best known for his work in giving car theft 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Mafia Definitive Edition VR mode.

In his statement, Ross went on to say that he intends to get clarification from Take-Two about exactly why the publisher is making takedown requests for his mods. He also claims that this claim comes from a copyright issue and not a licensing issue, so it allegedly has nothing to do with Ross monetizing his mods through Patreon. Considering that the mods are original software and Grand Theft Auto The VR mod has been out for a while, it seems odd that Take-Two chose now as the time to issue a takedown notice.


However, Ross intends to respect copyright above all else. While he said that he tried to do just that with his mods, by only building on his initial experience.
