Who is the referee for the 2022 Champions League final?

The 40-year-old Frenchman Clement Turpin will referee the 2022 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Turpin has been a FIFA referee since 2010 and a UEFA elite group referee since 2012.

He officiated the 2021 UEFA Europa League final between Villarreal and Manchester United and was also in charge of matches during the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.

According to WhoScored, Clement Turpin has officiated a total of 34 games this season.

The 40-year-old has refereed multiple games in Ligue 1, as well as the Champions League and Europa League.

Turpin has also acted as a referee on the international stage on a number of occasions, including last summer’s UEFA European Championship finals and this season’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Frenchman has averaged 24/65 fouls per game this season, issuing 114 yellow cards and seven red cards.

That’s an average of 3.35 yellow cards per game and 0.21 red cards per game.

Fans of other Premier League clubs will recognize Turpin from their own European games this season, as the Oullin native is credited for Chelsea’s 3-1 home defeat by Real Madrid in April and West Ham’s 1-0 win over Sevilla in April March was responsible.

What did Clement Turpin say to the referee of the 2022 Champions League final – Real Madrid vs Liverpool?

Turpin gave an in-depth interview to UEFA.com after being chosen as official for the 2022 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

In it, he spoke about “fulfilling dreams”, saying: “I feel privileged to have achieved two of the greatest dreams a referee can have.

“I think it’s important to believe that you have a star overhead, as we say – right now it feels like there’s a whole constellation of stars overhead!”

He also spoke about being a referee, adding: “The life of a referee is about being ready to make decisions, being confident and being natural.

“You have to understand the game – the more you understand, the better you can read a game as a referee.”

Finally, the 40-year-old also had some advice for young referees: “Dare – dare to try … dare to make mistakes … dare to be brave … because you end up winning will emerge.”
