Raptors re-sign Canadian center Chris Boucher

TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday that they have re-signed Canadian center Chris Boucher to a multi-year deal.

The move was first reported shortly after the NBA Free Agency opened on June 30.

The terms were not specified by the club but the deal is reportedly valued at $35.25 million over three years.

Boucher averaged 9.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and 11.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in six playoff games against the Philadelphia 76ers last season.

“I knew I wanted to be in Toronto. I feel like I’m building something. I have a bigger plan than just playing in Toronto. I want to be an inspiration to the kids and do a lot of different things,” Boucher said.

“As a Canadian, it was much easier for me to choose Toronto anyway. Especially knowing the family, my teammates – I have a lot of people here who helped me get here. It was pretty easy to make that decision.”

The Montreal center originally signed with the Raptors ahead of the 2018-19 season after playing a game with the Golden State Warriors the previous year.

The Canadian spent most of his time with the Raptors 905 that first year at Toronto and was named both MVP and G League’s Best Defensive Player.

Three years later, he re-signed with the Raptors to a two-year contract worth $13.5 million — the richest contract in NBA history by an undrafted Canadian player at the time.

“Chris embodies hard work and perseverance,” Raptors general manager Bobby Webster said in a statement. “He has shown us that he appreciates being a member of this team by committing to continuous improvement and finding ways to influence victory on the pitch.

“Even after his successes last season, he told us he wasn’t happy – and that attitude is why we’re excited to welcome him back to Toronto.”
