Rapper Young Dolph was fatally shot outside a Memphis bakery to which he had declared his love just days before, according to local station FOX13.
The 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., walked into Makeda Butter Cookies, to buy two items, owner Maurice Hill told the station. As Thornton was leaving, a car drove up, and someone shot and killed him around 1pm
Thornon’s murder comes just a week after he spoke about the bakery in a post on his Instagram page, pointing to the establishment’s sign and urging people to go to work.
“All I came for was to get a little of Makeda,” he said in the post.
“The tragic death of rap artist Young Dolph is another reminder of the pain that violent crime brings,” Strickland wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Debut rapper debuted with disc in 2016 King of Memphis after performing on OT Genesis’ hit single “Cut It” in 2015. Thornton released her fifth studio album. rich slaves, featured guest appearances by Megan Thee Stallion and Juicy J, last year to rave reviews. The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, making it his highest-charting album on the chart.
Tributes for the rapper began pouring in soon after news of his death broke. Megan the Stallion, who performed on his song “RNB,” called Thornton a “true legend” in an Instagram post.
“Everybody who knows me knows I play this manly song EVERY DAY!” she writes. “He’s very genuine, very real and good to me.”
Gucci Mane calls him “my friend” in a tribute tweet. “This breaks my heart,” he wrote.
“I WANT THIS RELIABLE IMMEDIATELY,” rapper JPEGMAFIA tweeted.
