Patil later told reporters that he and Thackeray only exchanged pleasantries and “nothing more”, as they shared a warm and friendly relationship from their student days.
Both leaders were in Nashik to test their respective parties’ preparations for civic elections.
Nashik is among 10 civic agencies that will conduct the polls next year.
The two leaders met when Thackeray’s convoy entered a guest house while Patil was leaving the premises.
They talked for a few minutes, away from their assistants and security staff.
Later, Patil said, “We are both in the student wing of our respective parties and share a friendly relationship since the last 40 years,” he said.
When asked if friendships will bear fruit in upcoming civics polls, Patil said, “Friendship and politics are two different things. Even though I’m the BJP’s president state, but our leader Devendra Fadnavis will make the final decision. ”
To a question about what they were talking about, Patil said, “We exchanged funny stories…nothing more.”
