Race for No. 1 in the 2022 NFL Draft: Texans are in position to pick up their next franchise QB

For the first time since 2017, a quarterback likely won’t be picked for the No. 1 spot in the upcoming NFL Draft. That being said, the first quarterback selected in the ’22 Draft probably won’t have to wait too long before they hear their name called by Roger Goodell.

Of the teams currently predicted to have the top five picks in the draft, the Houston Texans are the only ones in dire need of a franchise quarterback quartet. The Lions may give Jared Goff another year to prove themselves in Detroit, while the Jaguars, Jets, Giants and Eagles are now using recently drafted wingers. Now expected to have a No. 2 overall pick, Houston will likely have a choice between Ole Miss quarterbacks Matt Corral, Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett and Liberty’s Malik Willis.

Houston can roll the dice and redeem on the first round. And while the move could backfire, it’s highly likely that at least one of the draft’s top passers will still be on the board in the event Houston knocks out the overall #2 pick. . A potential commercial partner could be the Panthers, who may decide to pull the plug on Sam Darnold experiment. And while Taylor Heinicke played well in Washington, the Soccer Team could also enter the market in exchange for a quarterback.

Vikings at Lions (1 p.m. on CBS)

There’s a good chance the Michigan pass runner Aiden Hutchinson will stay where he started NFL job. Two of our three draft experts with the Wolverines best player will go to the Lions with the No. 1 overall pick. Hutchison enjoyed a fall by the pound in Ann Arbor. He peaked his season with three bags in the Wolverines 42-27 win over Ohio State, which won Michigan’s berth in the Big Ten Championship Game. Hutchinson has 12 tackles, 14.5 tackles when he loses, two mandatory fumbles and one recovery this season going into the game against Iowa on Saturday.

Colts in Texas (1pm on CBS)

Each of our drafts is expected to have Corral, Pickett and Willis done in the first round of the draft. That being said, there is no consensus as it concerns who should be the first quarterback to be removed from the board. Each midfielder has their own unique skill set.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Corral is a more modern form of midfielder in that he can execute the ball with his arms as well as his feet. Along with his 20 touchdown passes, Corral has picked up 11 points this season while leading Ole Miss 10-2 in the regular season. While he’s not as lethal as a runner, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Pickett has hit great numbers this season helping the Panthers win their first 11 games in 40 years. Pickett’s 40 touches this season broke Dan Marino’s school-season record for touchdown passes. Like Corral, Willis is a threatening dual midfielder who ran 1,764 yards and made 25 touchdowns during his two seasons at Liberty.

Jaguar at Rams (4:05 p.m. on FOX)

Two of our draft experts asked Jaguar to make an attack with their first pick. The highest rated tackles in the draft were NC State’s Ikem Ekwonu and Alabama’s Evan Neal. Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton is another player whose name has been linked to the Jaguars in recent mock drafts. While a young, talented player certainly helps Trevor Lawrence, Urban Meyer may decide to use this pick to bolster a defense that forces only six turns in their first 11 games.

Eagles at Jets (1pm on CBS)

The Eagles are one of three teams currently predicted to have two top 10 picks in the ’22 Draft. Our pundits say Philadelphia uses both options defensively, especially at full-back. Two of our pundits let the Eagles use their second pick to pick Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. Booth is one of four Clemson defenders recently named to the 2021 All-ACC First Team.

Giants at Dolphin (1pm on FOX)

While the eventual win could result in the Jets going up in the first round, it’s safe to say the Giants will take that trade. New York is now just one game away in the final playoff at the NFC after last Sunday’s upset win over the Eagles.

Side and offensive lines are two areas the Giants are expected to tackle in the first inning. However, CBS Sports Draft expert Josh Edwards gave the G-Men a pick of Willis with an overall pick of 5. That would certainly send shockwaves throughout the NFL, as it could mean the end of the world. of the Daniel Jones‘run for three years as a quarterback for the Giants’. The final six games of the 2021 season will likely determine what happens as far as New York’s midfield situation is concerned.
