A recommendation to bid for the 2024 Tim Hortons Brier Men’s National Curling Championship will be tabled at Regina City Council meeting on Wednesday.
The City Council’s agenda includes a recommendation that the city support the bid with a total contribution of $200,000. Approximately 60 percent of the funds, or $125,000, will be provided as a cash grant, with the additional provision of Regina Transit services being worth $75,000.
The organizers were excited about how 2022 Brier turned out
The agenda states that this will only move forward if Curl Regina can demonstrate that they can plan and host the event through a budget and events plan; a contribution agreement is concluded with Curl Regina; if Curl Regina accepts that the City will not incur any obligations for deficits, loans or guarantees as a result of hosting the Brier; and when Curl gives Regina a follow-up account of how the city’s funds were used.
The last time Regina hosted the Brier was in 2018, and the last time Team Saskatchewan won a medal was in 2021 when they brought home bronze.
Brier 2023 will be held March 3-12 in London, Ontario.
