Pyromancy Flame vs White Hair Talisman – FandomSpot

Both the Pyromancy Flame and the White Hair Talisman are excellent catalysts for casting pyromancy in Dark Souls 3.
Which one is best for you depends on what types of magic you want to cast, as well as your overall build.
We’ll break down the strengths and weaknesses of both catalysts below so you can decide which one is best for your build.
Pyromancy Flame Details

Castable Magic: pyromania
Statistical Requirements: none
Upgrade Material: Titanite shards
The Pyromancy Flame is the all-around best flame for dedicated pyromancers.
While Miracle users might want to use the White Hair Talisman to cast pyromancy, they should also consider using the generic Pyromancy Flame due to its ease of use.
Pyromancy Flame has no stat requirements, allowing absolutely any class to use it. It’s also easy to get as it’s already available in the Undead settlement.

While it’s certainly a basic option when it comes to casting Pyromances, it can be upgraded with Titanite Shards, making it an easy catalyst for upgrading as the game progresses.
Despite their unreserved focus on Pyromancy, Faith builds can still get the most out of the Pyromancy Flame due to their built-in scaling with the Faith stat.
Pyromancy Flame should remain the primary catalyst of any pyromancer and should be considered by any cleric wishing to dabble in pyromancy.
How to get the Pyromancy Flame

When you start the game as a Pyromancer, you start with a Pyromancy Flame in your build. Luckily, if you’ve decided on a different class, you can still find a Pyromancy Flame early on.
How to get it:
- Warp to the cliff-bottom bonfire in the Undead Settlement
- Go straight and out onto the rooftops, then turn around and go up
- Climb the wooden walkways and eliminate the enemies
- Follow the walkways to the back left corner to find Cornyx in a cage
- Talk to Cornyx and accept his offer
- He will now teleport to the Firelink Shrine where you can purchase the Pyromancy Flame from him
White Hair Talisman Details

Castable Magic: Pyromancy and Miracles
Statistical Requirements: 16 intelligence, 20 faith
Upgrade Material: Sparkling Titanite
The White Hair Talisman is a unique catalyst thanks to its ability to cast both pyromancy and miracles.
This versatility makes it a great option for Faith builds looking to dabble in pyromancy.
Unfortunately, the opposite isn’t true, as dedicated pyromancers who want to cast some miracles may be turned off by the White Hair Talisman’s 20 faith requirement.

While this stat requirement is certainly not an issue for Faith builds, the White Hair Talisman does have other barriers to entry that can turn off Clerics looking to use it.
The most obvious of these is the incredible effort it takes to find it (more on that later).
Another barrier is the White Hair Talisman’s upgrade material, Twinkling Titanite.

Since Twinkling Titanite is much rarer than regular Titanite Shards, it can be difficult to find enough to upgrade the White Hair Talisman throughout the game.
The strength of most spells is determined by the stats of the catalyst they are cast with, so it’s important to level up your catalyst regularly.
For those who don’t mind jumping through some hoops to use the White Hair Talisman, they’ll probably have a blast using it.

The versatility of the talisman makes it incredibly easy to quickly switch schools of magic.
It also prevents Faith builds from having to constantly upgrade a Pyromancy Flame, saving a mountain of Titanite Shards.
How to get the White Hair Talisman

Getting the White Hair Talisman is a lengthy process.
Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to do it:
- Break the bridge next to Highlord Wolnir Bonfire by attacking the support beams
- Climb down the makeshift ladder that forms the broken bridge
- Continue descending until you reach Smoldering Lake
- Go to the Mist Gate on the left, then look right to find the door to the Demon Ruins
- Explore the ruins until you reach the Old King’s antechamber bonfire
- Equip fireproof gear, then break the illusory wall in the bonfire room
- Follow this path, turn left as soon as you fall down and run to the end of the room
- Go through the door on your right and walk until you find a hole that leads to a lava pit
- Drop into the lava pit, do a 180 degree turn, and sprint to the back of the room
- The White Hair Talisman can be found as a glowing object in the back of the room
Which catalyst is better?

If you’re a pyromancer looking for a way to cast some simple miracles, avoid the White Hair Talisman. Stick to the Pyromancy Flame for your Pyromancy and use a simple talisman like the Sunlight Talisman for your Miracles.
If you’re using a Faith build and looking to get into Pyromancy, both the Pyromancy Flame and the White Hair Talisman are great options.
If you value ease of use, reach for Cornyx’s Pyromancy Flame. If you’re willing to put in the effort to get a little more performance, the White Hair Talisman is for you.
