Put on that Lightsaber, We’re previewing the Sith Legacy with the SWTOR Team… And We Have The Code For You!

Star Wars: The Old Republic is gearing up to celebrate 10 years of MMORPG storytelling and the game’s newest expansion, Legacy of the Sith, now has an official release date of December 14, 2021. Earlier this week, I had the chance to attend Join the sneak preview event with members of the SWTOR team, including Creative Director Charles Boyd, Project Director Keith Kanneg, and Community Director Jackie Izawa. During the event, members of the SWTOR team mentioned where the story is located and the main characters we’ll see along the way.

As always, the usual disclaimers of everything we’ve been presented with so far as “work in progress and subject to change” apply.

Let’s start with some free features. Pass and use the code “LotsOfTau” to receive the Tau Idair citadel decoration between now and December 5.

Speaking of Tau Idair, she will continue to be a prominent figure in SWTOR’s continuing story, accompanying Republic players throughout their journey through Legacy of the Sith. Creative director Charles Boyd highlighted Tau’s growth through Onslaught, and it looks like her story will continue to be an important one in the next expansion. For Empire players, Darth Rivix will return as your teammate in crime, so be prepared to bring your trust issues into Legacy of the Sith.

Players will return to the planet Manaan as Darth Malgus performs a power game to control the planet’s valuable kolto, a liquid with amazing healing properties. The traditionally neutral planet has been overrun by Malgus’s forces, and an atmosphere of war has taken over the normally peaceful planet. Stay tuned to see another side of Manaan, and its inhabitants, as the story continues.

Along with the new story areas, Legacy of the Sith will also bring a whole new twist to Elom and the new Campaign, The R4 Anomaly. As usual, R4 Anomaly will include multiple boss battles and a self-contained story, leaving the expansion’s main narrative in the main campaign. Carrying a “space-horror” feel, this latest operation looks like it will add even more variety to the settings we can explore in the SWTOR universe. Looking for a new Campaign shortly after the 7.0 Legacy of the Sith launch.

In addition to some new characters and the ones we’ve already mentioned, fan-favorite Major Anri and Lana Beniko are returning as the main characters, and we’ll be meeting a new Jedi Master Arn Peralun, the former Tau Idair’s enhanced robot Padrise. The SWTOR team also got a little cheeky with us about another new character included in the updated key art for the game. In the center, a lamp-sword holding a Twi’lek appears. Who this character is or what role they play in the story of Legacy of the Sith is currently unknown. Team members wouldn’t even give us names and only mentioned “characters we didn’t mention” when the artwork was shown. It looks like there are big plans for this mysterious individual.

Project manager Keith Kanneg emphasized that Legacy of the Sith is just the beginning of a year-long plan to celebrate SWTOR’s 10th anniversary. Kanneg reiterated that there is already an internal schedule of events, improvements and additions to the game planned for all of 2022.

Legacy of the Sith is slated for release on December 14, 2021.
