With Time Lord Jodie Whittaker and host Chris Chibnall leaving the series next year for the time being, Which doctor? is set to be reborn again in 2023, celebrating its 60th anniversary. Renowned producer Russell T. Davies will return to direct the show for the Fourteenth Doctor Era and fans are excited to see if he can return. Who to the culmination of David Tennant’s widely known tenure in TARDIS.
It certainly seems like there’s some big planning going on. New production company name just submitted GOV.UK seems to tease that the BBC and Davies are working on preparing a Which doctor? The universe. The listed company name is WHONIVERSE1 LTD. Of course, “Whoniverse” is the title fans want to give the show’s extended universe, which includes spin-offs like Torch and The Adventures of Sarah Jane.

Previously, we discovered that Bad Wolf Productions, the company co-founded by Davies’ ex Who producing partner Julie Gardner, will take over the series’ creative oversight from 2023 onwards while BBC Studios will handle the commercial side of things. Gardner was appointed director of WHONIVERSE1 LTD so it looks like this is the Bad Wolf division that will handle the crafting Who move forward.
And possibly many other side stories and spin-offs along with it. From 2005-2010, Davies ran the parent series as well as the aforementioned series TW and SJA, building a shared universe ahead of its time. Now that we live in a world dominated by the MCU, it’s likely Davies will want to try something similar again. Especially Bad Wolf was just acquired by Sony, which means the show has access to some of Hollywood’s big cash.
But we won’t hear much about Davies’ new era until the current one is over. Watch Whittaker’s final season like Doctor Who: Flux continues Sunday on BBC America.
