It’s always smart to focus on the good before the bad, so I’ll do that.
I won 4-2 with my Best Bet on the Pick Six Podcast, bringing my season record to 33-30. That is a good thing.
Now for the bad. In the end, I had that bad week picking all matches by odds, 5-9 to drop my season record to 79-68-3. My consecutive record is 7-6-1 to mark my season as 89-60-1.
Last week was one of those options where I didn’t feel like I had a good grasp of making options, so I expected a week of setbacks. Plus, Brady Quinn, who does the weekly picks with me on CBS Sports HQ, had almost identical picks to me. So I knew, considering his bad weeks, that I was on my way to the oven. One more thing: Will Brinson had a good week, which shows how the week went and why I didn’t do well. He’s picking like a guy throwing darts against the wall.
So let’s turn things around – and hopefully I don’t have as many options as Brady Quinn.
Atlanta Falcons +7
The Patriots are rolling with four wins in a row, which has helped them push Buffalo in the AFC East. The Falcons last week looked terrible against Cowboys. But these matches always make it difficult for the away team. I don’t think that will be the case here. Patriots will continue to grow as Mac Jones Fair play.
Pick: Patriots 27, Falcons 19

Philadelphia Eagles -1.5
The Saints are playing back-to-back road games outside of the region, which is tough. The Eagles impressed last week with wins in Denver and Jalen Hurts improving week by week. But the Saints defense is very good and I think it will slow down the Eagles attack. The saints will pass with just a sufficient offense.
Pick: Saints 21, Eagles 17
New York Jet +3
The Dolphins won two games in a row to lead 3-7 and beat Baltimore with an impressive defensive performance last week. That defense will make things difficult for anyone playing midfield for the Jets. Dolphins get hit hard in midfield, but it seems Tagovailoa will return. They will win behind their defence.
Pick: Dolphins 23, Jets 10
Washington football team in Carolina Panthers (-3.5)
Carolina Panthers -3.5
This should be the first start for Orange Newton, and it will be against his former coach, Ron Rivera. Washington doesn’t have two defensive ends to begin with, that will be a challenge. Carolina’s defense is improving week by week, and it will force Taylor Heinicke on some revenue. Carolina took it.
Pick: Panthers 24, Washington 16
Buffalo Bills -7
The Bills got back on track last week with a win over the Jets, while the Colts pulled through Jaguar. Buffalo’s defense continued to play top-notch football, as it only allowed 3.8 yards per charge on the ground. It’s a problem for Jonathan Taylor and the Colts offense. That will force Carson Wentz to win it, and he won’t. Bill take it.
Pick: Bill 30, Colts 20
Cleveland Browns -10
Baker Mayfield was hit hard, but expected to play. He didn’t play well against the Patriots last week, but the Browns’ defense was just as bad. The Lions had a draw in Pittsburgh last week, but it’s a lousy position against a desperate team. Plus, the Lions are playing road games in a row. Large brown.
Pick: Browns 32, Lions 19
Jacksonville Jaguars +6
49ers made a strong impression when defeating Rams on the second night. But this won’t be easy, traveling across the country in a short week after the big win. That’s why I like Jaguar. Their defense is playing well, and that unit will keep them in this game and possibly cause discomfort.
Pick: 49ers 23, Jaguars 21
Tennessee Titans -10
The Texans are about to say goodbye, but there are few who think they will be much improved after poor performances before the break. Tennessee is rocking right now, but the concern here is the slump after so many big games. That’s natural, but the Texans are so bad that it won’t matter. Tennessee roll.
Pick: Titans 29, Texans 16
Minnesota Vikings + 2.5
The Packers are playing great defense right now, which will present a real challenge for Kirk Cousin and Vikings. Minnesota was impressive last week when it won on the road against Charger. But this Packers team will get the offense back on track to go with a defense that will slow Cousins in a big game. The packer took it.
Pick: Packers 24, Vikings 19
Chicago Bears +6
Team Raven looked terrible losing to Miami last Thursday. The bears will say goodbye to them, and Justin Fields looks better than Steelsmith right before goodbye compared to any other game. The Ravens don’t look good at all. The Bears will hang around behind their defence. The Raven won it, but barely.
Pick: Crow 21, Bear 20
Las Vegas Raiders +1
The Bengals are about to say goodbye, while the Raiders have lost two games in a row. Cincinnati wasn’t playing well before goodbye and they were facing a desperate team. Looking for the Raiders’ rush to chase Joe Burrow and is the difference in this. Las Vegas is back on track.
Pick: Raiders 30, Bengals 25
Seattle Seahawks +2.5
Cardinals should have Kyler Murray returned to this match after they spawned without him in their game against Carolina last week. The Seahawks are in survival mode after losing to the Packers last week. The Cardinals, with Murray, will get a tough road win to really thwart Seattle’s playoff chances.
Pick: Cardinals 28, Seahawks 20
Kansas City Captain -2.5
This is match of the week, and it should be a shootout between Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott. Last Sunday night, Mahomes returned to what we expected to see pre-season. That will be done here. The Cowboys will also score their points because the Chiefs’ defense is still not good, so look for a high-scoring game with the Chiefs at the forefront.
Pick: Chiefs 34, Cowboys 30
Pittsburgh Steelers (+4.5) at Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Charger -5.5
Ben Roethlisberger could return for this game after the Steelers drew the Lions when he failed due to COVID. The Chargers have looked unclear on offense over the past several months, which will be a challenge for the Steelers defence. This will be like a home game for the Steelers to all the Pittsburgh fans who will be there. It will also play out as one. Steelers win in anger if Roethlisberger returns. Otherwise, all bets will be void. I hope he comes back.
Pick: Steelers 23, Charger 20
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -11
The Giants are about to say goodbye, while Tampa Bay is putting on a terrifying show in Washington. The Bucs will be back on track attacking here, but the defense is struggling. That’s why I think Daniel Jones and the Giant will hover.
Pick: Bucs 26, Giants 21
