Prince George was just like any England fan around the world during the 2020 UEFA Final at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday. The young prince cheered for their national team and even showed off a meme-worthy response when the group scored, which is now going viral.
George was accompanied by his mother, Kate Middleton, and father, Prince William, who was paired with his son – wearing the same outfit. England faced Italy in a final match and the two European teams gave their all for the gold medal.
According to TMZ, William was show his child the details of the game. The future king is seen crouching in front of his son – explaining what is happening in the courtyard below.
George was very attentive throughout the game. In fact, when England opened the scoring for the first time, he and his father celebrated together in a clip that is going viral.
The prince immediately became a fan of the sport and he may have inherited it from his great-grandfather, Prince Philip. Queen Elizabeth II’s husband is an avid fan of English football.
So some say that Philip may have reincarnated as George because of his excited reaction in the game.
Before the match started, William shared a video message on Instagram to wish England luck, USA Today noted.
“To all the members of the England team on and off the pitch, just wanted to wish you all the best. It was a team performance,” he said.
The Duke of Cambridge added that every member of the team plays an important role and that the background squad is “really needed.” He even said he couldn’t believe the game had finally happened.
“You bring the best of England. The whole country is behind you. So bring it home,” he added. When William credits this team for bringing out the best of England, he says the country is behind them, so they should take home the win.
Sadly, George and the rest of the British celebration was short-lived. Although Luke Shaw soon took the lead for the country, Italy caught up and equalized before time was up.
Italy beat England in a penalty shootout. The sad expressions on the Cambridge family’s faces said quite a bit – summarizing the heartbreak that the whole of England must have felt.
Anyhow, William showed absolute leadership in him and congratulated the winning team in a tweet.
