Midday: Individual showers/thunderstorms will begin to roll in and develop around the tri-state area with a focus west of New York City.
Early afternoon to mid afternoon: Showers/thunderstorms will become more widespread and affect the city and surrounding areas. Some of these storms will have the potential to produce damaging winds and even some large hail, as well as downpours, that can lead to localized flooding.
Late afternoon: Strong thunderstorms will continue to push south and east through coastal areas of New Jersey and Long Island. Much of the activity is expected to push offshore around 7pm 7
About the haze, it will remain common in the afternoon – although rain will help clear some particles from the atmosphere. Then, as we introduce wind change on the back of the cold front later today, hazy conditions will be less apparent from tonight into tomorrow, and especially on Friday.
