Politicizing the pandemic in the Trump era still benefits Joe Biden

The Biden administration’s calculus seems pretty clear. Biden has faced enormous criticism over the number of migrants trying to enter the country, an increase his opponents say he is entirely to blame for. By eliminating a large number of those migrants, Biden could – correctly – argue that the true number of migrants stay in the country is much lower than the top figures. Of course, he also dissented in that so many of those removed who simply tried to re-enter were counted as migrants caught twice instead of once. (In a weekend editorial protesting the use of Title 42, the New York Times report that half of the single adults removed under Title 42 would then be re-arrested.) Without Title 42, the number of arrests would likely be lower and the number of asylum-seekers higher. . It seems the government is willing to trade that.
