Pokémon Unite has a premium battle pass, additional gacha mechanics

TiMi Studios has been candid with the fact that Pokémon Unite will include multiple options for microtransactions, but it seems that neither the developer nor the Pokémon Company wants to share that number of transactions.

Within Unite, not only has a premium currency, Aeon Gems, which can help players unlock items, Pokémon, and cosmetics faster, but also has a premium Battle Pass. And, along with that Battle Pass, there’s also a separate gacha mechanic to unlock specific items.

The Battle Pass is a set of seasonal rewards that can be purchased with 490 Aeon Gems, with an additional option to purchase 945 Aeon Gems to gain 10 levels instantly. This roughly means buying $10 if you don’t have Aeon Gems on hand to use every time a new Battle Pass is added.

There are also free elements to the Battle Pass, although the premium track will contain more items and better rewards.

The Battle Pass was expected, however, as it was mentioned in the original documentation for the game. The surprise part is the new gacha-style Energy Rewards system, which unlocks when you reach Level Five of the Trainer.

For each match you play, you will accumulate Energy. This Energy can then be used to roll for a specific set of items, all of which have a percentage reduction each time 100 Energy is used. In essence, this doesn’t seem too bad, but not only are some Holowear and rare clothing items included in the Energy Rewards raffle, there is also a limit to the amount of Energy a player can collect every week.

Energy collected naturally through gameplay capped at 1,400 per week, good for 14 reels or two per day before the limit resets the next week. But through the use of microtransactions, players can purchase additional Energy Tanks to store additional energy and Energy Boosters, which increase the amount of Energy earned for a certain period of time. .

These premium pieces of content don’t necessarily take anything away from the base game. But locking some Holowear, clothing, and other items behind a senior mechanic and not giving players the option to buy them individually isn’t a great look for them. Unite when released.
