Pokemon Special Delivery Charizard Card is offered online at ridiculous prices

The limited edition Special Delivery Charizard Card for the Pokemon Trading Card Game is available at incredibly high prices on eBay and other websites.

The Pokemon Company has been celebrating a reopening since 2020 Pokemon Stores with the release of limited edition “Special Delivery” cards for the Pokémon trading card game. The Special Delivery line began with Special Delivery Pikachu in 2020, followed by Special Delivery Bidoof in 2021. The Pokemon Company announced the newest Special Delivery card, Special Delivery Charizard, in July to celebrate the opening of the newest Pokemon store in the UK.

Because Special Delivery cards are so rare, they are sought after by many Pokemon TCG collector. So perhaps it’s not surprising that many people have taken to eBay and other sites to sell their rare cards and codes. And these cards don’t come cheap either, with some sellers charging $150 or more for the trading cards.

TIED TOGETHER: Pokemon 2023 Championship Series announced

The Special Delivery Charizard features a flying Charizard with Special Delivery Pikachu on its back and two mailbags hanging from either hip. It also comes with a version of the unique Happy Delivery ability, which allows players to pick any two item cards from their deck and put them in their hand. While the promotion was active, fans could opt-in to the Pokemon Center’s registration page to receive an exclusive code. Customers can then claim their free Special Delivery Charizard card by redeeming this code with a purchase of $20 or more.

However many Pokémon trading card game Collectors are willing to pay well over $20 for a rare, limited edition card. Scalpers know this and have turned to eBay and sites like TCG Player to sell their cards at ridiculous prices. The cheapest deal at TGC Player costs the card $130 plus shipping, while the most expensive deal is a whopping $330. eBay offers now range from a comparatively cheap $52 to over $400. One listing contains an obvious misprint for $1,500.

It’s worth noting that the cards open to bid have significantly lower prices than many of the direct purchase options. As such, the high price of trading cards may be less indicative of unusually high demand and more indicative of the scalper’s guesses as to how much Pokemon TCG Collectors are willing to pay. Some may even be deliberate attempts to inflate the card’s value, which would hardly be unprecedented.

While some may find it odd to dump hundreds of dollars on a rectangle of printed cardboard, it’s rare Pokemon Tickets sometimes sell for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Special Delivery Charizard is unlikely to break those records anytime soon, but some sellers have a significant payday ahead of them.
