Pokemon Scarlet and violet are just three months away from launch and fans are excited to explore the Paldea region to discover all of its mysteries and creatures. The third trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and violet was particularly insightful as it focuses on exploring the region through a treasure hunt that can be done on either Koraidon or Miraidon, depending on the version chosen. Gen 9 will also feature a new fighting gimmick in the form of Terastalization, a process that gives each Pokemon the ability to change their existing types into one of the 18 currently available.
According to some leaks, this power is bestowed on players by one of the very first Pokemon Scarlet and violet Characters revealed by The Pokemon Company: Nemona – a fellow student who happens to be one of the main character’s rivals. In June trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and violet, Nemona was shown asking the main character whose Pokémon the three Gen 9 starters belong to, and then she is shown fighting with the help of her Pawmi, presumably battling the players’ first pocket monster. According to the official Gen 9 website, Pawmi isn’t the only Pokemon to have Nemona on her team, and she’s described as a skilled trainer. These are both important traditions Pokemon Scarlet and violet seem to break.
Why Nemona is a special Pokemon rival
In the mainline series of Pokemon Games introduce players to a new world as their adventure begins, and they soon receive their first Pokémon, which embarks on a journey to fill the Pokedex and explore the region. Because Nemona is apparently the first main character that the players will encounter scarlet and violetand since she already has a Pawmi, Lechonk, and Smoliv on her team, she probably won’t pick any of the remaining Gen 9 starters.
In fact, it’s plausible that players will have their first fight with Nemona shortly after choosing their companion Pokemon Scarlet and violet, employing her own team of critters. Usually the main competitor is in Pokemon games chooses a starter with a type advantage over what players choose, which has been a staple of the series since Gen 1. For example in Pokémon sword and SignHop selects the starter that is weak by the players’ choice, and Leon selects the remaining one.
Also, there’s always a rival who starts their journey alongside the players, which means they don’t have much Pokemon battle experience. Still, Nemona is described as a competent trainer, very skilled in battles, and she already has a team of at least three Pokémon to support her. as it stands Pokemon Scarlet and violet It is rumored that there are three rivals in total in Nemona, Arven and Penny and this too is an interesting change compared to other games.
Pokemon Scarlet and violetThe cast of characters seems compelling, and the fact that players have a different professor depending on the version they choose is a nice addition too. Nemona seems to be a great rival as she has been portrayed so far, especially considering how she could prove to be a challenging opponent in combat early on. Most rivals only have one Pokemon on their team for their first battle, and that too seems to be changing in Gen 9.
Pokemon Scarlet and violet will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on November 18th.
