Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Great Marsh Guide – All Encounters, Daily Pokémon and More

In each new iteration of Pokémon, Game Freak and other developers working on the game find new ways to take old concepts and bring them to life in new ways. That could mean as simple as giving new evolutions to species that didn’t have them before, mechanics like Mega Evolution of Dynamaxing taking combat to the next level, or simply seeing an area activity area and turn it into something else.

In the case of Sinnoh and Brilliant diamond and Shining pearls Remastered on Nintendo Switch, Great Marsh is the 4th generation equivalent of Safari Zone and really the first time the game dropped its original name for something new.

After arriving in Pastoria City, the player can pay 500 PokéDollars to enter the Great Marsh. They will be given 30 Safari Balls and a limit of 500 steps to enter the protected habitat of some rare Pokémon and try to catch them.

Once inside, the player can traverse a set of six numbered zones on foot or via a small tram set up on a track in the center, which will help preserve steps. if you need to go deep into the swamp.

Each region will contain different Pokémon native to the Great Swamp, with some species being exclusive to the region. There are also some mechanics you’ll need to learn before actually going in and out.

General rules

The 500 PokéDollar fee, 30 Safari Balls, and the 500-step limit are all pretty well-known aspects of the Great Marsh, as it follows the Safari Zone model from older titles. It also borrows from the non-combat environment.

When you enter the Great Swamp, you won’t fight other Pokémon, you’ll throw Safari Balls, Mud, or Bait instead. Throwing Mud at a Pokémon is easier to catch but more likely to run away. Likewise, throwing Bait will make the Pokémon harder to catch but less likely to run away, with both changing the unique catch/escape rate for each stage of a cast.

Safari Balls have the same catch rate as a normal Poké Ball, so you won’t get any incentives there and will need to use both Mud and Lure appropriately.

You can also automatically run away from any encounter if you don’t want to catch a Pokémon.

Change Pokémon

The majority of the Pokémon you find in Great Marsh will be casual encounters, which means they’ll be scattered across multiple areas. There is a way to find rare Pokémon easily and make sure you know where to go hunting, although these encounters change daily.

This method involves going up stairs as you enter the Great Marsh’s main building before actually entering the swamp.

On the second floor, you will find some binoculars used for sightseeing. Paying 100 PokéDollars will give you an overview of certain areas of the swamp and what Pokémon are available in each location, although the Pokémon you see are completely random. If you’re lucky, you might see a rare Pokémon from the lookout and just head out to the area to try and catch it.

You should at least take the time to explore the Great Marsh once fully to get all the items scattered all over the place.
