Pokémon BDSP Celebrate Junichi Masuda’s Birthday With Sweet Easter Eggs
Pokémon BDSP celebrate director and composer Junichi Masuda’s 54th birthday with a snowy easter egg.
Today is a special day for Game Freak and Pokémon Franchising! January 12th is director, producer and composer Junichi Masuda’s 54th birthday. To celebrate, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl brought back a feature that players can recognize from previous games.
Fans were excited to discover a sparkling surprise in the game as their Switch turned the clocks to January 12. The Easter egg, known as “Diamond Dust”, is originally teased by Masuda . himself back in 2008, and Game Freak brought it back in 2022. It’s a sweet nod to a major creation in the franchise, as well as paying homage to the Pokémon BDSPof roots.

JANUARY 12 SPECIAL POKÉMON BDSP EASTER EGGS
As with the original Pokémon Diamond / Pearl, any Pokémon BDSP Players traveling to Snowpoint City today will see twinkling lights around the town. This “diamond dust” is a special variation of the snow that Game Freak created for Masuda’s birthday.
Although Diamond Dust replaces all normal hail, it fortunately does not affect the battle. This means players can fight in and around Snowpoint City without being affected by hail. Even better, players will also see encounter rates and hatch rates increase, as an added bonus.
Although Diamond Dust appeared today to celebrate Masuda’s 54th birthday, it was originally revealed for his 40th birthday in 2008. In a post on his personal blog, Masuda encourages fans to pick up Pokémon Diamond / Pearl, implying that “Snowpoint city will be beautiful!Of course, when the fans did, they discovered something adorable Easter eggs it’s Diamond Dust.
Additionally, Diamond Dust has previously appeared in the game for other holidays such as Leap Day, New Year’s Eve, and player birthdays. It’s a rare effect that only appears in a limited number of games, making it even more special.
While Pokémon the game has created in-game special effects for various holidays, today’s effect celebrates a notable character in both Pokémon and game development history. Masuda, a game developer, has worked on most of the games Pokémon game since the founding of the company.
He is also one of the original three founders of Game Freak and the creative driving force behind modernity Pokémon Game. Accordingly, Masuda is currently a composer and Director of the Board of Directors at Game Freak.
