The Pokémon Company and ESL are teaming up again to host The Pokémon Battle Festival Asia 2021, a competitive online tournament that will allow players across Asia to battle for multiple titles.
Starting from late November to February 2022, Battle Festival will host tournaments for players in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. However, the game’s lineup might surprise some fans.
Instead of showcasing all current competitive titles along with new games, Battle Festival Asia 2021 will not include Sword Pokémon and Shield at all. Instead, coming soon Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining pearls games will take their place in online competitions along with Pokémon Go and Pokémon trading card game.
BDSP, Pokémon Go, and PTCG Online will be the three main titles, while additional exhibition and invitation events will be held for Pokémon Go, PTCG, and Pokémon UNITE. The exhibitions will feature a variety of celebrities and influencers competing live on stream, with more details to be announced in the near future.
It should be noted that TPC only confirms that official VGC competitions will be held using Sword and Shield, which means games will be the main focus of competitive gameplay. However, that doesn’t mean other events or sub tournaments won’t appear using BDSP and its limited Pokédex.
There will also be special content shown on the stream for BDSP and Pokémon Legend: Arceus.
For now, it looks like the first listed events will be held for Pokémon Go starting November 26, with PTCG contests starting December 10. Additional dates, registration details and information on other aspects of the contest can be found on the official page Battle Festival Website.
